Professor Kyounghee "Hazel" Kwon received a doctoral degree in Communication from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2011 and has served on the faculty at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA before joining the Arizona State University.
Her research interests focus on social/digital media and society, with a particular emphasis on the ways in which digitally-mediated communication influences collective sensemaking and (anti)sociality. Some of her research has been supported by DoD, NSF, SSRC, and MacArthur Foundation.
Dr. Kwon has received Herbert S. Dordick Dissertation Award from the International Communication Association (ICA); Emerghing Scholar Award, Kappa Tao Alpha Research Award from National Honor Society in Journalism and Mass Communication, and Jung-Sook Lee Award from the Association for Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC); and Top Four Paper Award from National Communication Association (NCA). Her publications have appeared in multiple high impact journals.
